George Du, USJ of Director and Chair Professor of the Institute of Data Engineering and Science (IDEAS); originator of the academic term “Maritime Communications” and pioneering researcher in the field. Former Chair Professor (2017–2021) and Founding Dean of the Data Science Institute (2017–2019) at City University of Macau, where he also served as Founding Director of the Big Data Center for Urban Governance (2017–2021). Previously served as Dean of the School of Information Science and Technology at Hainan University for 13 years. Holds a Ph.D. in Informatics from the University of Adelaide, with postdoctoral research at the Israel Institute of Technology (IIT). Specializes in Computer Science, Communications, Data Science, and AI, with recent focus on data-driven modeling and intelligent eldercare. Spearheaded the establishment and accreditation of the first doctoral program in Information and Communication Engineering at Hainan University, serving as its lead professor.
